Southwest School Corporation
Emergency Closings and Delays
The decision to close or delay Southwest School Corporation Schools relies on many factors. It is a decision that is never made lightly or without a great deal of consideration. The decision to close or delay school is made in collaboration with the county and state highway officials, emergency personnel, and other county and neighboring schools. The SWSC administration will take into consideration the current weather, road conditions, as well as the duration of the wind chill factor predictions.
Parents, please note: The decision of ability to travel is based on what our school buses and experienced drivers can do in these conditions, and is not necessarily based on the ability of less experienced student drivers and smaller, two-wheel drive vehicles.
Please review the following list of emergency options implemented by Southwest School Corporation. Please discuss these with your children and plan in advance for possible closings or delays.

CANCELLATION OR DELAY OF SCHOOL
The Superintendent of Southwest School Corporation will determine when it is necessary to close school or delay school opening. Every effort will be made to have a decision by 6:30 a.m. Parents are asked NOT to call the stations or the SWSC office or schools. These calls tie up telephone lines and delay important messages getting to the media.
Notification of school closing and delays will be announced via School Reach Automated Phone Message from the SWSC Central Office, on the radio, local television stations, and the SWSC website:
