Posted on 11/13/2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Sullivan County is ORANGE: Sullivan County remained at ORANGE for the past week.

However this past week we have seen an increase in cases and close contacts within our schools.  Due to these factors I am making adjustments to our school schedule. Please review the schedule for each building your children attend.

For the week of November 16 – November 20, Southwest School Corporation will operate on the following schedule:

THANKSGIVING BREAK WILL BE EXTENDED - We will extend Thanksgiving Break by moving to virtual learning on Monday, November 23, 2020 and Tuesday, November 24, 2020.  This will allow time for more separation.   SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED.

We plan to resume our current schedule on November 30, 2020

Grades K-5: In-Person Learning – Monday through Friday
Grades 6-12: In-Person Learning – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; Grades 6-12 Online/E-Learning - Wednesday.
Per the new Governor’s Executive Order, the Southwest School Corporation will be following updated guidelines for conducting extra-curricular activities which includes: limiting spectators, wearing masks, and promoting social distancing.

In previous correspondence I have stressed the importance to each parent and guardian to be prepared for possible adjustments to the plan throughout the school year as we strive to adhere to state and local guidelines.

These adjustments could result in a change to the school schedule.  It is important to have a plan developed and ready to implement if a change becomes necessary.

PARENT REMINDER:  SELF-SCREENING for COVID-19 SYMPTOMS

Southwest School Corporation (SWSC) will require all parents/guardians to self-screen their child(ren) for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning before school.

Symptoms Impacting Consideration for Exclusion from School:
CHILLS or FEVER of 100.4 degrees or greater COUGH, especially new onset, uncontrolled cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing HEADACHE, particularly new onset of severe headache with fever SORE THROAT NEW LOSS of taste or smell
Students should be excluded from school if they test positive for COVID-19 or exhibit one or more of the symptoms of COVID-19 based on CDC Guidance that is not otherwise explained.

Please feel free to contact Susan Tincher, SWSC Nurse, with any questions or concerns at 812-268-3341, extension 2765, or email stincher@swest.k12.in.us.

The key for keeping our schools open is to continue to follow the recommended guidelines from the CDC, Indiana Department of Health, and Sullivan County Department of Health.

We do this by continuing these practices.....

·  WEARING OUR MASKS

·  SOCIAL DISTANCING

·  WASHING OUR HANDS

·  STAYING HOME WHEN WE ARE SICK

Thanks again to each of you for your patience, flexibility, and cooperation and your support of the SWSC!

Have a great weekend!

Chris Stitzle, Superintendent
