Dear SWSC Parents and Community,

Southwest School Corporation has been closely following recent media reports and information from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In an effort to provide up-to-date, helpful information for our parents and community, Southwest School Corporation has created a web page to address some of the common concerns and questions about the Coronavirus. The web page includes information from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention and Indiana Department of Health. Find the web page here: https://www.swest.k12.in.us/district_services/health_services/coronavirus_information.

SWSC is proactively working to insure our schools are safe for all students and staff. We want to assure you that SWSC follows all precautions as recommended by our local and state health agencies. In addition, SWSC has a Pandemic and Medical Emergencies Plan in place in the event of a disease outbreak within our schools.

To help prevent the spread of illness within our schools, please follow the guidelines provided by the Indiana Department of Education, in conjunction with the Indiana State Department of Health, when determining if your child should stay home from school. If you are not sure if you should send your child to school due to symptoms, contact Southwest School Corporation Nurse Susan Tincher at 812-268-3341, extension 2765.

Our school nurse and staff will be working with students to promote good hygiene and to keep everyone healthy and safe. We also work with our custodial providers to ensure our schools receive thorough cleaning every day.

Parents are asked for help in reinforcing healthy practices at home with children. Please review these recommendations from the Indiana Department of Health to help prevent the spread of illness:

·       Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

·       Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

·       Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

·       Stay home when you are sick.

·       Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash.

·       Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Please check out our web page for continued updates and information. Thank you for your continued support of the SWSC.
