Announcements November 15, 2017

Today is November 15, 2017

Science Olympiad is sponsoring Pajama Day on Friday, November 17, 2017.  Pay $1 and wear comfy jammies all day!

Also, Friday is our E-Learning Day.  Elementary school students need to come to school with a fully charged iPad (if they get to take them home).

2017 Carlisle PTO Poinsettia Sale has begun!  The Carlisle PTO is taking orders for poinsettias.  Your student brought home an order form.  4″ pot is $6 (RED only). 6″ pot is $12 (Red/White/Pink).  All orders are due on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.  Please make checks payable to Carlisle PTO.  Flower pickup will be held on Friday, December 1st from 3-6pm at Carlisle School.  We appreciate all of your help!

Carlisle PTO is hosting a seat raffle!  Two winners will receive six seats each to the December 5th Carlisle Elementary Christmas Program.  Tickets are $1 each or 6/$5.  Winners will enjoy comfortable seating in the front row.  The same person will not be allowed to win both sets of seats.  Tickets can be purchased from any PTO officer or in the school office between November 15th-December 4th.  Winners will be drawn on December 4th at 2:30pm.

Our school fundraiser is going to be a RADA Cutlery sale.  The school will get 40% profit from all sales.  This is a great, quality product that can be purchased at a reasonable price!  Our hope is that each student (and staff) set a goal to sell at least 10 items.  These products make great Christmas gifts!  Our goal is to raise money for indoor/outdoor recess activities and PE equipment for both the elementary and the middle school, and other educational items to be used in your child’s education.  Money and order forms are due in the office by Monday, November 27th.  Any late orders may not be returned in time for Christmas.

The Southwest School Corporation is planning an E-Learning Day on Friday, November 17, 2017 for grades 6-12 at Carlisle Middle School, Sullivan Middle School, and Sullivan High School.  Students in grades K-5 will be attending school as a normal day; however, teachers and students will be simulating an E-Learning day during part of their regularly scheduled activities.  We are choosing this date for an E-Learning day due to the fact that a large portion of our student population will be at the state Beta Convention.

An E-Learning Day is an opportunity to expose students to 21st century skills, keep the educational process relevant, and maximize instructional time before standardized testing.  This day is designed to allow students to work from home on assignments posted to our Canvas learning management system.  This E-Learning Day provides us the opportunity to explore our ability to keep the learning process seamless for future inclement weather.  Although we would like for all students to take advantage of this opportunity, E-Learning Days are optional and schools will be open, buses will be running, and lunches will be served.  Students who choose to attend school on November 17, 2017 will be assigned to a computer lab and will complete their assignments digitally through Canvas under the supervision of an instructional assistant.  Teachers will be available during their office hours from 12-2pm to answer any questions through email, Canvas, or by phone.  If students have technical issues throughout the day, they may contact the technology facilitator at their school by using the help desk or by emailing or calling.  Students will be required to sign up in the office by Friday, November 3, 2017 if they plan on attending school that day.

Remember that all athletes MUST have a physical on file in the school office before you can participate in ANY practice.

Also remember: Students are not to stay in the building after school for any reason unless supervised by a coach or designated adult.

Can you cook?  Sodexo is looking for your favorite Healthy Asian Fusion Recipe!  This competition is open to ALL elementary school students.  Lucky winners from each SWSC elementary school will be chosen as finalists to compete in our contest at SHS on March 8, 2018.  As an added bonus, the winner of this event will be entered into a National Competition for some great prizes!  Pick up your entry form today!  They are available in the cafeteria and in the main office.  Turn them in to the main office by December 15, 2017.

Here are some tips to be a finalist :

  • be original
  • be creative
  • don’t do recipes that are too easy or too complicated
  • try to avoid recipes with a lot of sugar or fat in them

Judges will consider the following 6 criteria:

  • taste
  • originality
  • ease of preparation
  • healthy attributes
  • kid appeal
  • plate presentation

The use of one or more of the following ingredients will earn up to 3 bonus points at the judging:

Low Sodium Soy Sauce, Low Sodium Teriyaki Sauce, Brown Rice, Bok Choy, Fresh Mushrooms, Lean Chicken, Lean Pork, Rice Noodles, Tofu, Garlic & Ginger.

Parents, please check your child’s Harmony Account so you know what their lunch balance is at all times.

CONCESSIONS:  After school concessions are every day after school.  There will be Gatorade, chips, candy bars for sale.  Please do not send large bills with your child.  We do not have a lot of change.  If we don’t have change, then your child won’t be able to purchase their snack.

Parents or guardians enter their phone numbers, address, emergency contacts, etc. when registering your child(ren) for school every year.  This is information that is very important.  You should be looking at that and, if necessary, be changing it.  If you move to a different address-you should change it in Harmony.  If you get a new phone number-you should change it in Harmony.  If you want to change your emergency contacts-you should change it in Harmony.  If there are old contacts that are no longer used-you should change it in Harmony. These records need to be kept current. We will not be able to contact you in an emergency situation if our records are not accurate.  Please call the school office if you need assistance.

We respectfully ask that all after school instructions for where your child needs to go be done before they leave home in the morning.  A note for your child’s teacher is the easiest.  Your child cannot get on a bus other than their regular scheduled bus unless they have a note from their parent stating they have your permission.  IF you have to call the office, please do so before 2pm.

Please remember: Students are not to stay in the building after school for any reason unless supervised by a coach or designated adult.
